F Cooke's marble tables were given new legs made from stained birch plywood and now hold eyewear display cases in a sunny hue that matches the original wall tiles. Pale yellow tiles bordered by bands of contrasting blue and turquoise tiles decorate the walls.

Mirrored display plinths stand at the heart of the space. This is achieved through a series of six mirrored acrylic display plinths that were designed to blend into the space.

This office space retains the cavernous feel of its original structure, with exposed rock walls contrasting with the modern equipment and office furnishings. Half-buried in the ground, the office provides views at forest floor level, effectively erasing the divide between the indoors and the outdoors.

The buzz is palpable from the newly opened Anita Gelato Factory on Second Avenue, with its outdoor cafe tables, to Waku Waku Japanese restaurant, serving sushi on the sidewalks of Brooklyn. The nuances of the brand are communicated with logo-inspired door handles at the entry, and wood shelving contrasted against white walls with black trim.

There, specialty retailer Filson (Seattle) – a 124-year-old maker and seller of men’s and women’s outdoor clothing, accessories and luggage – opened a flagship store whose interior incorporates major structural elements of a rustic barn. An abandoned barn relocated from its original home in Oregon makes up the store’s post-and-beam interior.

The LA store contains three distinct areas, each with product displays and bespoke elements. In the centre of the room is a circular "wet bar" wrapped in brushed aluminium – a material meant to contrast with the store's plastered walls. The shop also has an outdoor area called Glossier Alley, set to open this month.

The outdoor space is adorned with pockets of greenery and curved concrete benches. In the retail zone, clothing by brands such as Engineered Garments and Homme Pliseé is displayed within arched, wooden niches. In contrast with the lower-level space, the bar has a moody atmosphere.
