The Milan office of David Chipperfield Architects has designed a minimalist boutique for fashion brand Akris in Washington DC , featuring pleated walls and displays suspended from thin wires. The Akris store is located on I St NW in the US capital. "DCA The boutique debuts a new design concept for the brand's retail spaces.

The store also features collaborations with talented Australian artists, with ground-level installations by paper engineer Benja Harney and artist Bianca Beers, and abstract sculptures and paintings by Elliott Routledge. The unconventional flow, leading customers left instead of right, sets the experimental tone.

De Cárdenas worked with Angelo Baque, the former brand director of streetwear brand Supreme , on the design of a retail location for Awake NY , which Baque founded in 2012. At the back of the boutique, the walls are covered in a checkerboard pattern that is repeated on a display stand closer to the centre.
