Preston Lane designed the building’s architecture while Hecker Guthrie was in charge of its interiors, combining modern and heritage architectural elements. Blu Dot was established in 1997 by three university friends – two architects and a sculptor – in a 30sqm space in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

The 900-square-metre space spans three floors and is dominated by a sculptural helical staircase that twists up through the showroom. Sheet metal covers the staircase, underscoring the industrial aesthetic of the retail space, which features anthracite-grey walls and expansive windows. A helical staircase is clad in metal.
