With its spherical gateway, limited palette and otherworldly lighting, the space was likened to a "desert planet" by Lialawlab's chief designer, Liya Xing. In contrast to the dark burgundy colour palette of the bar, the inner restaurant features a neutral colour scheme. And where the bar is well-lit with large windows, light is filtered in the restaurant area to create a more intimate space, the studio says. Each is then finished with custom designed lighting, seating and screens.

This was a major inspiration point for Rockwell Group in the design of the new space, with the studio opting to accentuate the hotel’s connection to the Nevada deserts rather than the usual Vegas hubbub. The focal point of the main are is a 14-foot-tall chestnut oak tree, which acts as an indoor canopy under which guests are seated.

But, for rooms that need a focal point, multi-color wood boards can have a major impact on the style of the space. The colors of the rustic wood paneling perfectly match the lighting for the decor. Colored wall panels that have an overall light tone can also use shadow to create different effects in the space.
