Guests at the event donated a total of £6,491 following an on-stage appeal from long-term MAG supporter Debbie Robinson, chief executive at Central England Co-op and former boss of Spar UK, alongside Neil Turton, managing director of buying group Sugro UK and previously head of Nisa.
Sarah Taverner, head of philanthropy at MAG, said: “This is an astonishing and extremely generous amount and it will make a huge difference to our teams removing and destroying landmines and unexploded bombs for the benefit of women, girls, boys and men around the world.”
The Manchester-based organisation has been supported since 2015 by a group of executives from the convenience and wholesale sector, along with their supplier partners, who have raised more than £730,000 on industry bike rides across Sri Lanka, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and the UK.
