Make your re-charging customers comfortable while they wait, advises BP

Forecourt retailers should start offering comfortable “hubs” for motorists to use while their electric vehicles are re-charging, heard the ACS Power, Mobility and Convenience conference this morning (14 September).

Tom Callow, head of insight and external affairs for BP, said that the company was working on what these hubs would look like.

He said: “We are constantly looking at the best way to deal with this, particularly studying charging on existing forecourts.

“But it’s not rocket science. What you need to offer is somewhere you can get a coffee, go to the toilet, and grab a seat reasonably comfortably.”

Callow added that some forecourts would develop at different rates to others depending on the proportion of their customers that are driving electric vehicles.

“Some forecourts tend to have more older cars than others,” he said.
