The Jack’s symbol group – launched as an experiment by Tesco in 2018 – is to be discontinued.

But Tesco’s subsidiary, the Booker group, said that its stores would continue to expand the Jack’s own label brand.

A Booker spokesperson said: “We have learnt a lot from the three store symbol trial and are grateful for the support of our customers, who will now re-join our existing symbol brands.

“We have been delighted with shoppers’ reaction to the range following this trial and the successful launch of Jack’s products to our customers last year, and we are continuing to explore further opportunities to bring our customers great quality and value.”

The first Jack’s symbol retailer was Mo Razzaq, whose Glasgow store converted to the group from a Family Shopper.

It is understood that Razzaq’s store will now become a Premier. The two other Jack’s stores, in Middlesbrough and Co Durham, are also understood to have switched symbol groups to Premier and Budgens.
