The finalists, announced by the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS), are Nico Ali, of Tasa Shops, Jarrow; Linda and Sophie Williams, of Broadway Convenience, Oxgangs, Edinburgh; and Julie Kaur Duhra, of Premier Jules Convenience in Telford.

The award is in honour of Raj Aggarwal, a famously community minded retailer who died of Covid last year.

ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “Raj was the epitome of a community-minded retailer and greatest supporter of fellow community retailers and we were delighted to receive so many entries from fantastic retailers for the first year of this award marking his legacy.

“We look forward to hearing from the finalists and announcing the overall winner at our Heart of the Community reception.”

All three finalists will attend the event this month, where the winner will be announced at a parliamentary reception celebrating the impact of community retailing.
