Nestle has reassured retailers that supplies should be safe this Christmas, despite acknowledging the widespread challenges facing deliveries.

The company’s move follows a BBC report this morning that the maker of Quality Street and KitKat is seeing labour shortages and transportation issues.

A Nestle spokesperson said: “Like all businesses we are managing a number of challenges at the moment but we are working hard to mitigate those issues and are not seeing a material impact on supply.

“Our factory in Halifax manufactures up to 12 million Quality Street sweets every day and there will be plenty to go around this Christmas.”

The BBC report came after a visit to the UK by Mark Schneider, Nestle’s chief executive, who was here to launch a range of non-dairy, plant based alternatives to its milk and chocolate products.

This is part of an attempt to further reduce Nestle’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Along with its new non-dairy lines, Nestle is also working with new types of cattle feed that result in less methane per litre of milk produced.
