With the World Cup well underway, Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity is celebrating the football with a sporting themed giveaway.

The Sports in the Community initiative will see almost £40,000 handed out to 32 individual sports teams across the UK enabling them to purchase new kit and equipment.

Nisa retailers have been nominating sports clubs in the communities where they are based to be in with a chance of a charitable donation.

Tying in with the football theme, 32 sports clubs representing all 32 countries in the World Cup tournament were randomly selected and each will now receive a donation of £1,000 via their local Nisa retailer.

The winning teams, which include football, rugby, cricket, bowls, and boxing clubs based across the whole country, were announced earlier this month. The full list can be seen here.

Each of the nominated clubs were also matched to a World Cup team in a sweepstake with a further donation of £2,500 awarded to the club whose football team wins the tournament and £1,500 for those coming in second, third or fourth place.

Helen Walker, marketing manager for MADL said: “We wanted our retailers and their customers to join in the excitement of the World Cup this winter and thought the Sports in the Community was a fitting way of getting everyone interested.

“The nominations were made by Nisa retailers, and we used all our available channels to encourage shoppers to get involved and ask in their local store for support for their teams.

“We were really pleased with the response and to see such a wide array of grassroots, inclusive sports teams and clubs benefiting.”

The sweepstake winners will be revealed at the conclusion of the World Cup and the remaining donations paid to the teams once the final whistle is blown and the trophy lifted by the winning nation.
