The deal includes 42 company-owned restaurants, as well as 29 franchise sites.

EG Group described the acquisition as “complementary” as it looks to expand the food side of its business. It currently operates more than 700 food outlets in the UK and Ireland – including branches and drive-thrus of KFC, Starbucks, and Greggs – and plans to open about 20 new Leon outlets a year from 2022.

EG Group also highlighted the importance of Leon’s own-brand groceries, a range of ready meals, and Leon’s cookbooks.

In addition, EG group is reported to be closing in on a takeover deal for Caffe Nero, which has around 900 stores in the UK.
