Turnover surges at Manchester Spar after refit

Sales at a Spar store in north Manchester have risen by between 25% and 35% a week after a £180,000 refit.

The Cleary family’s store in Victoria Avenue, Blackley, increased its product range by more than 200 lines after the facelift, which marked the 25^th anniversary of their ownership.

Changes included new refrigeration, increased fresh food and hot products, as well as a coffee machine.

Mark Cleary, a member of Spar’s national board and its Northern Guild committee, operates seven Spar stores across Manchester and South Yorkshire, working with his son, Ben.

Mark Cleary said: “The store’s range now better serves the local community, we feel, and we are beginning to see the returns on that investment, which is very pleasing.”
