The Cleary family’s store in Victoria Avenue, Blackley, increased its product range by more than 200 lines after the facelift, which marked the 25th anniversary of their ownership.

Changes included new refrigeration, increased fresh food and hot products, as well as a coffee machine.

Mark Cleary, a member of Spar’s national board and its Northern Guild committee, operates seven Spar stores across Manchester and South Yorkshire, working with his son, Ben.

Mark Cleary said: “The store’s range now better serves the local community, we feel, and we are beginning to see the returns on that investment, which is very pleasing.”

Peter Dodding, sales director at Spar wholesaler James Hall, said: “The Cleary family are long-standing Spar retailers through association with James Hall and they play a key role in shaping how we operate and support our independents.”
