In an advent calendar style countdown on MADL social media, 12 charities have been selected from across the UK to receive additional funding.

All the causes operate within communities served by Nisa stores and have been selected by independent retailers.

The first causes to benefit include the North Dorset Beekeepers Association, the Arts at the Mill CIC in Wigan, mental health charity the Bearded Fishermen in North Lincolnshire, and Devon-based Children & Families in Grief. All of them have received £1,000.

Marketing manager at MADL Helen Walker said: “We know there are so many incredible causes across the UK that our independent retailers are keen to support, and we wanted to give something a little extra this Christmas when so many communities are struggling.

“Tying the initiative in with the 12 Days of Christmas helped to give it a festive feel as well as add in some suspense as we reveal one winner at a time during the countdown to Christmas Day.”
