Carter, who joins the fifth-generation family business after nearly nine years with McCurrach, the well-known field marketing agency, will report to Graham Cairns who is promoted to sales and business development manager for the north of England following the departure of Jeanette Gordon who has left the company to support her husband, Neil, with his training company.
Originally from Wrexham in North Wales and now living in Catterick Garrison near Scotch Corner, Carter’s most recent position with Glasgow-based McCurrach was key account manager for news but he also held posts working with the field marketing agency’s Unilever teams – all giving him valuable experience in the convenience and multiple channels.
Craig Brown, Filshill’s chief sales and marketing officer, said: “Under the leadership of Jeanette Gordon and Graham Cairns, we have built strong momentum for the KeyStore brand in the north of England and we want to build on that as more retailers choose KeyStore as the best solution for achieving increased profit and margin.
“Arwel will now work with Graham to stimulate growth and increase profitability in a competitive convenience marketplace that continues to evolve and throw up challenges while helping them retain the flexibility to run their stores the way they want to while offering a point of difference over their competitors.
“His knowledge of the territory will be invaluable and his involvement with a local football club shows that he share’s the strong sense of community that both Filshill and KeyStore adhere to.”
Filshill, one of Scotland’s oldest independent food and drink wholesalers, saw turnover increase to £200m – up 4.4% from £191m – in the year ending 31 January 2022. The company will move to its new distribution centre near Glasgow Airport in the first quarter of 2023.
