The supermarket giant will trial the service, which is called Whoosh, at its Willenhall Express store in Wolverhampton, West Midlands. The service will initially only be available only for consumers in selected postcodes in the local area.

Orders will be placed via Tesco’s app or on its website, with customers charged a £5 delivery fee, there is also an added £2 charge if you spend under £15.

Chris Poad, online managing director at Tesco, said: “Customers are telling us that they would welcome the addition of a 60-minute delivery to their door option as part of our online grocery service.

“We’ll use the pilot to understand how Whoosh could work best for both our customers and our colleagues.”

Tesco says the service will expand to other stores across the UK if the trial is successful.
