Community retailer McColl’s has announced plans to increase the number of Morrisons Daily stores it will open in the next year, the second acceleration of the opening programme in as many months.

McColl’s said this morning (29 November) that it will have opened 450 stores in the format by the end of November next year, 100 more than previously planned.

That 350 figure itself was only increased in September from the previous target of 300.

Jonathan Miller, chief executive of McColl’s, said: “Within 12 months we will have 450 stores open and trading as Morrisons Daily, representing over a third of our total community store estate and over half of our sales.

“These stores have a higher grocery mix and wider breadth of product choice which is great for our customers, and with strong sales growth and better return on investment, it is great for the company too.

“We look forward to continuing working closely with Morrisons in the years ahead.”

McColl’s is next week (8 December) to publish a full-year trading update for the year to 28 November.
