Book retailer QBD Books is taking over the former Dymocks store space at the Broadway Shopping Centre in Sydney’s CBD.

The 500sqm store will open November 13, and coincide with QBD Books’ introduction of vinyl records in-store for the first time, in partnership with Sony Music.

“Broadway is an exciting location for us because of its proximity to some of Australia’s best universities including the University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney – and the avid readers among their student and lecturer populations,” said QBD Books CEO Nick Croydon.

“We’re proud to be a flagbearer for brick-and-mortar bookstores, and in many locations, such as Broadway, we’ve been able to come in and ensure books have a continued presence in the community.”

Croydon said that QBD Books found book readers and vinyl record consumers share similar interests, a discovery which prompted a partnership with Sony Music. The company also has an agreement with Australian Geographic to sell its products at stores following the closure of the Curious Planet chain.

QBD Books is also set to open another bookstore in Melbourne before the year ends and is planning to further expand and refurbish stores across its network.
