Cafe Yala Plus Student Association in Canberra has deployed Amazon’s Just Walk Out (JWO) technology to speed up and improve the retail experience.

Service company Cognizant established Amazon’s Just Walk Out (JWO) to assist organisations in deploying and delivering technology solutions designed to improve customer experiences and support rapid expansion while avoiding the risk of technological misalignment.

The collaboration delivers technology that enables nearly 24/7 access for students to the Student Association store.

According to the producer, the technology will improve the purchasing experience and eliminate checkout friction, while also streamlining inventory management for the Student Association. The technology uses advanced artificial intelligence technologies including computer vision, deep learning and generative AI to create a frictionless shopping experience and maintain security.

“Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology benefits all CIT students, especially those studying outside of regular business hours,” said Andrew Scotford, CEO of the CIT Student Association.

“Many Canberra Institute of Technology students balance work, study, and training, so flexibility and accessibility are important. Many students living on the CIT Bruce Campus lack easy access to nearby shopping.

“Cafe YalaPlus now offers convenient access to food, beverages, and other essential items.”
