Regional grocer Plum Market (Farmington Hills, Mich.) has opened its first store in Florida. The 24,000-square-foot outlet in Aventura features locally sourced natural, organic and specialty products, along with a fast casual dining zone.

Notes of local culture bring a fresh perspective to the shopping environment, the grocer said in a news release. Adding traditional South Florida elements to the décor of the new store, Plum Market enlisted a local sign-painting team called Chalk & Brush to design a 40-foot, hand-painted mural inside the store’s dining area.

In addition, Plum Market strives to support local growers, artisans and makers by displaying signage that highlights how many miles each local product has traveled to reach the store.

“We look forward to being the premier retailer for all natural, organic and locally sourced foods, beverages and lifestyle essentials here in the neighborhood,” Matt Jonna, Plum Market’s CEO and Co-Founder said in the release.

Future openings by the chain, which currently has 25 locales, include full-line stores in Hollywood, Calif., and Washington, D.C., and smaller Plum Market Kitchens at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and California’s Oakland International Airport.
