Glue steps into footwear recycling and circular fashion

Youth streetwear retailer Glue store has launched an in-store footwear recycling program and a circular wardrobe in partnership with AirRobe.

The brand has partnered with TreadLightly, a recycling initiative powered by the Australian Sporting Good Association (ASGA) and recycler Save our Soles (SOS), to encourage customers to divert their used footwear to recycling plants rather than landfill. Shoppers who do so are entitled to receive 10 per cent off on new purchases.

Reclaimed sporting goods and lifestyle shoes are then turned into mats and flooring for retail stores, gyms and playgrounds.

“Over 110 million shoes make their way to Australian shores each year and of which 25 million are sporting and athletic lifestyle footwear,” said Shaun Bajada, executive director, ASGA.

Glue has also joined forces with digital circular wardrobe brand AirRobe to encourage customers to rent, recycle and resell their pre-loved clothes.

“Glue store believes in quality over quantity which is reflected in the quality of brands and products we retail. Our partnership with Airrobe adds further value to our ranges,” said Charles Moore, Glue store’s head of brand, marketing and e-commerce.

AirRobe’s technology will integrate its circular wardrobe with Glue store’s online checkout platform, allowing customers to add items to their AirRobe digital wardrobe upon purchase.

“Glue customers can now easily re-sell, rent or upcycle their pre-loved clothes after adding to AirRobe online. It’s inspiring to see leaders of the Gen Z youth fashion ecosystem like Glue Store take the lead on driving the industry to a circular one,” said Hannon Comazzetto, founder and CEO, AirRobe.

The new programs are part of Glue’s Future Choice initiative. The sustainability initiative focuses on several pillars including animal-friendly practices, recycled fabrics, natural fibres and supporting local businesses.
