McIntyre Merino is set to open two new stores on the east coast and eyes offshore expansion opportunities in Europe.

The company will open new flagship stores in Sydney’s Paddington and in Melbourne’s Emporium shopping centre.

Founded by Ned Scholfield and Raquel Boedo, the brand says it is on a mission to bring a “colourful & sustainable” approach to the wardrobe.

McIntyre is named after Scholfield’s great-grandfather, Duncan McIntyre, who established a Merino farm in Victoria after settling in the Grampian Mountains in 1864.

Merino Wool is described as “finer than human hair” and is softer than Cashmere. It is also 100 per cent biodegradable and uses 18 per cent less energy than polyester and 70 per cent less water than cotton.

In a bid to support homegrown manufacturers and wool farmers, about 40 per cent of the company’s products are made in Australia.

The team has plans to expand to Europe, due to Boedo’s Dutch background.
