There will be a lot more than five gold rings this Christmas with John Lewis predicting a bumper year for festive proposals.
For many, this year will be a lot more sparkly than usual, as Father Christmas will be delivering an extra special gift – an engagement ring.
Sales of rings at John Lewis have risen by 85% compared to the same time last year, revealing that 2023 could be a bumper year for Christmas proposals.
Customers planning to pop the big question have been shopping in droves this year. Diamonds have been the most popular stone, with princess cuts, halo cuts and three-stone cuts some of the most popular styles.
Vintage second-hand diamond rings at John Lewis have also risen in popularity, with customers attracted by unique pieces at cost effective prices.
Second-hand jewellery is available in 15 John Lewis shops, as well as on JohnLewis.com and is sourced by our expert buyers in collaboration with second-hand jewellers. Prices for second hand engagement rings at John Lewis range from £245 for a 9ct Gold Cubic Zirconia Ring (dated circa 1981), to £5,500 for a Second Hand 18ct Yellow & White Gold Old Cut Diamond Ring.
Lizzie Hannaford, jewellery buyer at John Lewis, said: “This will be a December to remember for many. While getting engaged at Christmas has always had a ring to it, we predict that more people are planning to do so in 2023.
“There’s definitely an emotional attachment about Christmas that brings people together, with 46% of people saying that spending Christmas with loved ones has become even more important since the pandemic.
“With more Christmas lights in towns, villages and historic properties across Britain, there are lots of very romantic backdrops for a sparkling proposal which looks – and feels – magical.”
