With the world becoming more eco-conscious with each year that passes, both consumers and companies are taking action to promote sustainability and ethical conduct. This might involve analysing product materials and packaging or contributing towards environmental endeavours.

Luxury watch brand Hublot is one such business that is prioritising social responsibility. Through a variety of projects including creating special edition timepieces for charity collaborations, Hublot is showing a commitment to protecting the planet and its wildlife for generations to come.

Kevin Pietersen’s SORAI enterprise

Brainchild of Kevin Pietersen, ex-international cricketer-turned-conservationist, Save Our Rhino Africa India (SORAI) is a unique enterprise that unites people and businesses to support initiatives that protect the rhino and other significant endangered species.

Hublot have partnered with SORAI by creating a special edition timepiece where a large portion of the sales funds go directly to Care for Wild, a leading organisation that specialises in the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned baby rhinoceroses. Look out for the SORAI model in the Big Bang UNICO range of Hublot watches, the company’s multi-award-winning flagship collection that combines innovative materials with revolutionary technology.

Unique timepieces for Only Watch

Hublot also partners with charity Only Watch by creating a unique timepiece once every two years. Their 2021 contribution was an inspired design featuring a translucent case for visible mechanism and sapphire dial and orange numerals, finished off with a ‘Pièce Unique’ engraving.

The biannual Only Watch events showcase one-off wristwatches designed by leading brands in fashion capitals across the world including Dubai, Paris, London, Tokyo, and Singapore. These exquisite accessories are then put up for auction, with the proceeds going entirely to Only Watch.

Developed in 2005, Only Watch raises money for research into treatment for neuromuscular diseases, primarily the degenerative genetic disorder Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Polar Pod exploration project

The Polar Pod project is a key pillar of Hublot’s Xplorations programme, through which the company seeks to support endeavours related to Space, Earth, and Sea. This particular partnership relates to ocean exploration, supporting a Southern Ocean research endeavour led by Jean-Louis Etienne.

The waters around Antarctica are as yet relatively undiscovered, despite the fact that the Southern Ocean captures 50% of the carbon emissions absorbed by the world’s seas. This area is also a mammoth marine biodiversity hotspot. The three-year Polar Pod mission, launching late 2023, is going to capture key data in relation to the impact of human pollution on climate change.

Responsible Jewellery Council member

In addition to its eco-minded partnerships, Hublot is a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council. This international not-for-profit recognises companies in the jewellery industry that promote ethical business practises from mine to retail, including the sourcing of gold, platinum, and diamonds.

RJC members open themselves up to frequent audits that check conformance with the organisation’s Code of Practices which covers environmental responsibilities and human rights.
