Klarna, a leading global retail bank, payments and shopping service is today showcasing a suite of new innovations as it celebrates its 18th birthday. The new products revealed today build on nearly two decades of innovation in the payments and shopping space. This includes the new Klarna app and smart shopping features to help consumers find the perfect items, and resell items too. Together, these new releases continue to shape the future of shopping, making it more personal, convenient and enjoyable.
Since its inception in 2005, Klarna has evolved from being just another digital payment solution into a global shopping destination with more than 150 million consumers and 500,000 retailers around the world. The Klarna app has become the destination for millions of smart shoppers, and features exclusive deals and automatic coupons, making it easier for customers to save money and time whilst shopping.
New products launching in the UK this spring include:
A new AI-powered shopping feed
The Klarna app’s new discovery shopping feed, powered by Klarna’s in-house devel- oped AI product recommendation engine, enables consumers to scroll through highly personalised product recommendations, helping them find and shop the items most relevant to them. No two feeds are the same, with real time updates and deals that become increasingly tailored as it learns more about the user’s preferences.
Creator Shops, a new must-visit shopping destination
A growing number of consumers are using social media as their primary source of shopping inspiration, but finding products can be challenging with content dispersed across channels. Meanwhile, creators are frequently asked “Where is that from?” and “Where did you buy that?”
Meet Creator Shops, where Klarna provides its growing creator network the abil- ity to launch their own storefronts on Klarna.com. Using Klarna’s Creator Platform, creators can recommend products from thousands of brands, share shoppable video and photo content, and invite followers to visit their personal shop from their social channels. Through Creator Shops, consumers can easily find and purchase all their favourite creators’ product recommendations in one place. Further, by being able to include links to every item, creators can increase their affiliate revenue from a single post on any social media platform, by enabling their followers to click through to their shop and buy. Soon, creators will be able to share this content to millions of shoppers in the Klarna app for extended reach.
Lydia Tomlinson, content creator, said: “The Klarna Creator Platform has opened up a new world of opportunities when it comes to affiliate content. The transparency between what I link and what the brand can see has helped me establish new relationships with brands that I have loved and shopped at for years. With my new Creator Shop, I have the perfect place to showcase everything I’m wearing, using and loving. Now my followers can easily find and shop my latest looks all in one place, saving them the hassle of wondering where to buy.”
Klarna is placing what consumers want at the heart of their new experience. Recent research shows that 78% of consumers would like a service where they can speak with prod- uct experts to get more information about items when shopping online. Further, with the trend of buying and selling secondhand growing as consumers seek eco-friendly options and budget-friendly solutions, more than one-third of consumers say they are more likely to resell an item now compared to one year ago. With this research in mind, Klarna is excited to announce that the following innovations are coming soon to the UK:
A personal shopper in every pocket
A free personal shopper service, Ask Klarna, will provide consumers with on-demand access to shopping experts, via chat or video calls from within the Klarna app and at Klarna.com. Together with their personal shopper, consumers will be able to find the perfect product across thousands of brands, stores and products in the luxury sector, with this innovation soon expanding to more verticals.
A smoooth resell experience
A new resell feature within the Klarna app will speed up the process of creating listings on secondhand marketplaces by pre-filling product details and images. To sell a past Klarna purchase, consumers simply tap on the “Resell” button next to an item from their order history, and they’ll be automatically taken to a participating re-commerce platform.
Klarna’s latest products build on an 18-year tradition of introducing smart tools to make the shopping experience smooother for consumers, including those recently launched:
Search & Compare, that helps consumers find and compare products across thousands of stores, and compare prices to help consumers find what they love for less.
Automatic coupons, that looks for and applies active coupons to further discount the price of chosen products in the app.
Loyalty Cards, allows app users to store and access their physical loyalty cards as digital ver- sions, removing the need to carry plastic equivalents while shopping in-store.
C02 tracker, gives consumers deep insights into the environmental impact of their purchases, displaying the emissions set free for over 50 million items in every step of the product’s lifecycle – from the sourcing of raw materials to recycling.
Automatic delivery tracking, provides consumers with a single dashboard with their purchase history, product details, order and delivery status, package location and pickup details. This eliminates the need to sift through multiple emails or track parcel information across different delivery apps.
Sebastian Siemiatkowski, co-founder and CEO of Klarna, said:“Over the last 18 years, we’ve transformed into a global shopping destination with smart tools for consumers around the world.
Our new AI-powered discovery shopping feed is the next evolution of the Klar- na app becoming the starting point for every purchase. This builds on a ton of initiatives we’re working on in the AI space, to provide a greater level of person- alisation to consumers that was once thought impossible.
The new tools we’re launching today will create richer, more enjoyable experi- ences for everyone along the shopping journey and create tremendous oppor- tunities for retailers to grow their business.”
