Spin Master, the owner of the toy brand Paw Patrol, has partnered with TerraCycle and ToyWorld to expand a toy recycling program.
The addition of ToyWorld stores as collection points significantly expands the initiative that was first introduced last year. Consumers can now drop off damaged or outdated toys of any brand at any of the 40 Toyworld locations nationwide – or ship them directly to TerraCycle.
Jean Bailliard, GM at TerraCycle Australia, said he hopes the initiative will change people’s attitudes toward toy waste, which will benefit the environment.
“Toys are often made from several materials including metals, plastics, plush and rubber,” Bailliard said
“Items made from a complex mix of materials require manual sortation and special recycling technology, which is often too costly for kerbside recycling. Through our partnership, Paw Patrol is providing an end-of-life solution for toys that would otherwise take hundreds of years to break down in landfill”.
There are certain types of toys that cannot be dropped off for recycling, however.
These items include books, playdough and slime, pens, pencils, crayons, and big toys.
Participation in the program is also open to any individual, school, company, or community organisation.
TerraCycle is an international organisation whose mission is to eliminate the idea of waste. Businesses, government entities, and consumers work with the organisation to keep rubbish out of landfills or from incineration.
