Unique creations bridging the realms of materials, flora, fauna, and humanity

MiDA-Lab has been chosen by the jury of EDIT Napoli 2023 to be featured in the Young Dutch Titans exhibition, a collaboration with the Embassy and Consulate-General of the Netherlands in Italy

Craftsmen are not only influenced by the objects they create but also play a significant role in shaping those objects. MiDA-Lab, founded by emerging designer-maker Michela D’Angelo, will participate from October 5th to 8th at EDIT Napoli in the Seminario Section with two lighting pieces for the habitat.

D’Angelo’s training has equipped her with expertise in various materials, including ceramics, glass, wicker, recycled plastics, fabrics, steel, bronze, and aluminum. She has gained practical experience working alongside local craftsmen in countries such as Italy, Spain, France, Peru, and the Netherlands, where she collaborated with the Nacho Carbonell studio for five years.

MiDA-Lab’s projects span different times and cultures, drawing inspiration from Mediterranean regions to the Nordic heritage of Dutch travelers, traders, and explorers. These projects give voice to a rich tapestry of materials, allowing them to converse with one another.

The techniques employed are firmly rooted in tradition but infused with a contemporary drive for innovation. Each unique creation represents the convergence of various cultural backgrounds and interpersonal relationships, reflecting the personal journeys of the designer, craftsman, and entrepreneur.

Furthermore, the combination of techniques and materials underscores a commitment to sustainability within a circular system. MiDA-Lab‘s practical endeavors harmonize seamlessly with Dutch culture and identity, fostering exploration at the intersection of art and design within a culturally diverse and welcoming environment.

This ethos contributes to shaping an inclusive and multicultural identity. Likewise, Naples represents a similarly open and culturally rich environment, embodying a fusion of history, arts, languages, sensations, and aromas.

In the upcoming months, MiDA-Lab will be showcased at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven from October 23rd to 29th and at the Passage festival in The Hague from November 17th to 19th.

During the Dutch Design Week, visitors are invited to explore the numerous workshops, studios, and laboratories within Sectie-c, a hub for experimentation, ambition, and entrepreneurship since 2010. This provides a unique opportunity to connect with a creative ecosystem of small businesses, artists, designers, musicians, writers, and artisans who perceive possibilities rather than limitations. You will be able to immerse yourself in the enchanting world of MiDA-Lab and visit Michela D’Angelo’s workshop.

At the Design Passage festival, supported by The Embassy of Design, attendees will have the chance to engage with designers, artisans, and their innovative ideas. The event takes place in a historic palace at the heart of the administrative capital, offering an opportunity to acquire extraordinary objects not typically found in stores.
