Last month Google launched their new virtual assistant technology ‘Google Home’ in the UK, in response to Amazon’s Alexa and Echo technology. According to the latest adverts, this tech allows you to ‘stay in the moment’ rather than staring at your smart phone and ignoring your loved ones. Touted in some quarters as a virtual ‘AI Butler’ – could these new technologies really revolutionise the way we approach home retail or are they just another flash in the high-tech pan?

3.1 Phillip Lim store byKate McCullough and MR Architecture + Decor, Los Angeles – California. The 3.1 Phillip Lim store in West Hollywood closed last year, but the American designer makes a grand comeback with a new flagship that adds to the revival and ongoing transformation of downtown Los Angeles. Lim has picked a lofty 5,000 sq.ft. [465 sqm.] space in a low-rise 1930s building which was previously occupied by a restaurant.

Experimental structure in Slavkov u Brna is one of several buildings by Zden?k Fránek, that have been created in partnership with scientists. The task was to develop an innovation center for a family business. A structure that will operate solely on energy gained from natural resources and using water independently thanks to its natural water treatment system.

MTM Skincare spa by More Design Office, Chengdu – China. More Design Office’s new treatment spa for Hong Kong based MTM Skincare is a hidden gem accessed via a gently curving feature stair. Situated in Chengdu’s Taikoo Li, the 400sqm spa has 2 main functions, a retail-orientated ground floor where customers can have their skin analysed by MTM’s consultants who can recommend custom-made skin products.

Daily Dose café by Andreas Petropoulos, Kalamata – Greece. Daily Dose is a small coffee bar that is located next to Justice city hall of Kalamata. The inner of the store consisting of a 20 m2 floor plan, with a small space on the loft which is used as a storage and utility room. The client’s main target was a take away cafe. This was for us the main design priority for the final layout of the floor plan.

Antonio Ramirez was managing his pizzeria Albabel during more than 20 years in Picaña when he decided to contact Masquespacio, having a dream to convert his old restaurant in a completely new one.

Zigvy Corporation Office by ARCH.A StudiO, Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam. ARCH.A StudiO designed the offices of tech company Zigvy Corporation, located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Zigvy’s offices consist of two meeting rooms and one open working space which is divided into two groups. The pantry area is connected to a working space by sharing a small part of the seven-meter working table.

FlaHalo Office Manufactory Renovation by Narration, Shenzen – China. The FlaHalo Office Manufactory Renovation in Shenzhen, China, wasn’t an easy project for designer, Jingze LI of NARRATION to undertake, thanks to the multiple peculiarities of the space. And yet, this site which was built in 1986 for the Nanxing Glass Manufactory was brought up to date and transformed for his client in 2015, bridging the building’s past usage with its future potential.

Pizzaria Biliardo ’65 by Bilodunk studio, Nola – Italy. A pizzeria (the term deliberately with the archaic accent!) With a kitchen in the heart of Nola’s old town, a town full of history and culture that was the home of Giordano Bruno. The concept is born to the will to tie the format to the territory and to the tradition associated with the prince of the offer.

FREEZER ice cream shop by SK Designers & Housestanding, Ramat Gan – Israel. In the middle of Ramat-Gan, a city located near Tel-Aviv, in the heart of one of the most hectic shopping districts, opened last February a second branch of now an ice cream chain called “Freezer”.
