Coles’ sales, profit stable during Covid-impacted first-half

Coles Group has reported a slight increase in revenue of 1 per cent to $20.6 billion despite sales disruptions in supermarkets and liquor segments through its first half due to the impact of Covid-19. Profit slipped 2 per cent to $549 million. On a two-year comparable basis – which compares the latest half with the corresponding period pre-Covid, sales in supermarkets grew by 8.6 per cent, in liquor by 18.2 per cent and through the Express business by 1.1 per cent.

Analysis: How LVMH price hikes will reverberate throughout luxury

French luxury brand Louis Vuitton is following Chanel and Hermès’ lead by introducing a price increase for its iconic products from the middle of February. The decision is in response to “changes in production costs, raw materials and transportation, as well as inflation”. Screwfix has opened its latest distribution centre, a new 370,000 sq ft distribution centre in Cheshire, run by Wincanton. The latest site at Daresbury, Cheshire, adds to Screwfix’s network of five distribution centres in the UK and will create an additional 400 jobs in the north-west.
