Harvey Norman profit falls as lockdowns trim sales

Electronics and furniture retailer Harvey Norman Holdings says prolonged government-mandated lockdowns and store closures impacted profits in the year to June 30. The company owns and operates Harvey Norman, Domayne and Joyce Mayne brands. Total system sales revenue for the year was $9.558 billion while company revenue reached $2.087 billion. EBITDA fell 1.4 per cent to $1.43 billion while tax-paid profit dropped 3.6 per cent to $811.53 million compared to $841.41 in the previous year.

Mosaic Brands posts loss, remains optimistic for the new year

Trans-Tasman apparel retailer Mosaic Brands says this year has been the “most difficult period” to date for the group. It has reported a net loss of $11.154 million. Mosaic Group’s brands include Katies, Millers, Noni B, Rivers, Rockmans, Crossroads, Autograph, W.Lane, EziBuy and Beme. For the year to July 3, the business delivered an EBITDA loss of $16 million while comp sales were down 1.7 per cent year on year.

Children’s Advertising Rules Apply in the Metaverse Too, CARU Says.

CARU, the Children’s Advertising Review Unit of BBB National programs, issued a compliance warning last week reminding industry that the self-regulating body on children’s advertising and privacy intends to enforce its advertising guidelines in the metaverse, just like in the real world. Bedshed, Kitchen Connection parent boosts profits

Joyce Corporation, the listed franchisor and owner of retail bedding store chain Bedshed, and Wallspan and Kitchen Connection, says revenue increased 16 per cent to $129 million in the year to June 30, despite challenging operating conditions. Earnings before income and taxes rose 33 per cent to $32.2 million, while tax-paid profit from continuing operations increased 36 per cent to $17.6 million.
