A Nordstrom location in Walnut Creek, CA has become such a frequent target of thefts that the retailer is willing to pay for extra police, Bay City News reports.

It’s believed the grab-and-run thefts are connected to organized retail crime rings, which are reportedly prevalent across the country, but especially so in California.

The article says the heightened police presence would come through voluntary overtime from Walnut Creek officers and is estimated to cost more than $230,000. Nordstrom has agreed to reimburse that amount to the city in quarterly payments.

“These thefts have resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost property and a perception that Nordstrom may be unsafe for patrons,” says a staff report from Walnut Creek’s city council. “The Walnut Creek Nordstrom has experienced instances of this type of crime. Nordstrom security staff and management is concerned about the safety of their employees and their customers.”
