Melbourne’s famous Chapel Street retail strip is undergoing a resurgence, thanks in part to the opening of a 24-level commercial tower at one end.

Goldfields CEO Lachlan Thompson says demand for high-quality space is on the rise and is set to “reinvigorate” the city with new hospitality offerings.

“There has been a resurgence of quality inner-suburban retail and hospitality offerings as Melbourne looks to shake off the shackles from the past two years. People want to enjoy themselves again and to make the most of this amazing city.”

The $400 million Goldfields House spans 24,000sqm on the Chapel Street precinct and offers a 180-degree view of the city’s skyline, Port Phillip Bay Peninsula and beyond.

Australasian-based hospitality group, Good Group Hospitality, has secured 550sqm of ground floor retail space to open its newest Australian food and beverage offering, Wong Baby.

Russell Gray, CEO of Good Group, said the opportunity seemed like a “natural fit” for the business as it was an “ideal demographic and vibrant geographic location”.

“We are seeing the revitalisation of the South Yarra end of Chapel Street with a number of new buildings, including Goldfields House. There is also an abundance of high-rise apartment buildings in that location as well as several significant businesses.”

Likewise, restauranter, Cam Northway has created a concept for the rooftop restaurant and bar atop the building. The $4 million fitout includes a Rod Laver Arena-style retractable roof, a first in Melbourne, which facilitates outdoor dining all year round.
