Waitrose announces earliest British Asparagus season

CEO Anthony Heraghty discusses Super Retail Group’s half-year results

According to CEO Anthony Heraghty, Super Retail Group has plenty of reasons to be positive about its performance for the year ahead. Sales across all four brands – Rebel, Macpac, Supercheap Auto and Boating, Camping and Fishing (BCF) – were up by about 15 per cent, while its profit grew by about 30 per cent for the six months to 31 December 2022. Coles’ profit up, but inflation expected to dull second-half

Coles has overcome supply-chain challenges and inflationary pressures to record a 17.1 per cent lift in tax-paid profit in its first half. For the 27 weeks to January 1, sales from continuing and discontinued operations reached $21.4 billion – up 4 per cent – while tax-paid profit rose to $643 million. Supermarket sales reached $18.85 billion, up 4.6 per cent, which the company says was supported by the retailer’s ‘Locked’ and ‘Dropped & Locked’ value campaigns.

Weak consumer demand dents Best & Less Group profits

For the 26 weeks to January 1, sales grew 13 per cent to $324.8 million while tax-paid profit fell 31.8 per cent to $13.7 million. Like-for-like sales were down 4.9 per cent compared to the previous corresponding period with online sales down 0.9 per cent to $29.8 million.
