National Lottery retailers will this week be stepping into a festive period full of sales opportunities, with the first of three special National Lottery draws over the Christmas and New Year period taking place today (Friday 2 December).

The special EuroMillions super jackpot draw has a boosted jackpot of an estimated £112m up for grabs, giving retailers an opportunity to boost sales by up to 71% ahead of the huge draw.

As the festive period gathers pace, National Lottery retailers can also expect bumper sales from two special £15m Lotto ‘Must Be Won’ draws – the first on Christmas Eve and the second on New Year’s Eve.

Additionally, a huge new advertising campaign from The National Lottery will help drive players into stores to buy tickets over the festive period. Directed by Oscar-winner Tom Hooper, the epic National Lottery Christmas love story follows two strangers who meet on a train and become lucky in love and the lottery.

With 71% of National Lottery players likely to gift a Scratchcard this Christmas, the festive National Lottery Scratchcard range can also provide a last-minute Secret Santa gift or Christmas card filler.

This year’s range varies in price from £1 to £5 and includes cards called Snow Me The Money, Jolly 7s and 12 Pays of Christmas, which boasts a top prize of £100,000 a month for a year.

Camelot will also once again be a Level 1 supporter of the National Council on Problem Gambling’s (NCPG) 2022 Gift Responsibly Campaign.

For retailers to maximise the sales opportunities around this time of year, Camelot suggests; reminding customers to buy a Lucky Dip at the till ahead of the special festive draws, making sure all POS is sited and the Scratchcard dispenser is full and suggesting a festive Scratchcard to customers to gift to friends or family.

Camelot’s retail director, Jenny Blogg, said: “Christmas is always a special time for The National Lottery – and this year is no different, with lots of mega prizes on offer to get retail customers dreaming of their perfect Christmas, as well as an incredible new advertising campaign that will get people imagining the joy of winning big this Christmas.

“We hope retailers can make the most of these fantastic sales opportunities – and help National Lottery players continue raising over £30 million each and every week for Good Causes.”
