Klabu – Supporting unbeatable spirit
Because Tchai has its roots in China, we celebrate each Lunar New Year, where we – in the spirit of hong bao – have the special tradition of supporting a good cause. Now that we have started the Year of the Tiger (a year in which action, passion and the ‘go get ’em’ spirit are central) we thought it was an inevitable choice to give this year’s donation to the KLABU foundation. KLABU is committed to creating sportswear for (sports-) clubs all over the world.
With the proceeds from this they also build clubs in refugee camps, so that everyone there too can enjoy the power and joy of (e)sports, music and community. They are currently working with refugees in Kenya, Bangladesh, Greece and the Netherlands. Projects in Brazil, Curacao and Uganda, are also work in progress and the foundation has great ambitions to make children and young people happy with sports and games all over the world!
Refugee camps can really use sports attributes and clothing. In addition to building clubhouses, KLABU supplies these so that refugees can borrow this gear and enjoy all the local popular games and sports. Each clubhouse even has its own branding/identity. For example, the shirts of a club – designed by artists – are always created in their own unique style. As a result, they build new communities among the people who had to leave their own village and/or family behind.
Competitions are also organized in large cities, for example in Amsterdam and Bangladesh, where different teams can play with each other.
Tchai’s donation will be spent by KLABU in the refugee camp in Lesbos, Greece, which will be launched this spring. 4.000 refugees are situated there, under challenging conditions, and the grassroots project gives them access to sports, games and community. The donation will be used for the solar power system, to provide the clubhouse with electricity with which refugees can charge their phones, watch TV and listen to music.
Tchai thinks this is a wonderful goal, among other things because;
…It’s authentic
…is aimed at the creation of its own branding and identity.
…revolves around team sports
…creates a genuine connection
…brings joy!
Cheers,
Tchai
