(PRESS RELEASE) WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Society of Interior Designers’ (ASID) Student Portfolio Competition is now open for entries. Recognizing outstanding achievement in student design, the competition awards the designers of tomorrow with resources to launch and advance their future careers. The 2023 competition is open to undergraduate and graduate level students in the United States and Canada and is sponsored by Benjamin Moore.

To enter the competition, students should present a range of projects and concepts from their design portfolio, showcasing a breadth of abilities and highlighting personal design philosophies and innovations. Entries are judged by representatives from top design firms around the United States, with judges considering concept, content, context, and execution in the top portfolios. The competition is open for submissions through February 15, 2023. Entries require a one-page cover, a one-page statement of up to 500 words, a one-page resume and a portfolio of up to four projects and 20 pages. After several rounds of judging and virtual interviews, winners will be notified in late April 2023.

Competition finalists and winners will receive complimentary admission to ASID’s SCALE Student Summit at GATHER 2023, the National Conference by ASID in Los Angeles August 13-15, 2023. Winners will formally present their portfolios and design processes to top designers and firms attending GATHER, and all students will have access to invaluable networking for potential internships and career opportunities. Winners and finalists will receive increased visibility through ASID’s social channels and media outreach and will also receive a dedicated feature on the ASID website. Winners will each receive a $6,000 scholarship, presented by Benjamin Moore, to help further their interior design journey and empower them in their chosen career.

The competition is open to all students – ASID members and non-members. For ASID and IDC members, the application is free; for non-members, the application fee is $85 and includes ASID student membership.

About ASID

The American Society of Interior Designers believes that design transforms lives. ASID serves the full range of the interior design profession and practice through the Society’s programs, networks, and advocacy. We thrive on the strength of cross-functional and interdisciplinary relationships among designers of all specialties, including workplace, healthcare, retail and hospitality, education, institutional, and residential. We lead interior designers in shared conversations around topics that matter: from evidence-based and human centric design to social responsibility, well-being, and sustainability. We showcase the impact of design on the human experience and the value interior designers provide. ASID was founded over 40 years ago when two organizations became one, but its legacy dates back to the early 1930s. As we celebrate nearly 85 years of industry leadership, we are leading the future of interior design, continuing to integrate the advantages of local connections with national reach, of small firms with big, and of the places we live with the places we work, play, and heal.
