New fashion retail design concepts

Some research in the studio for an upcoming project has led to us digging into the latest store concepts guiding our shopper journeys. Curated shopping destinations featuring a small number of brands with multiple product lines are a popular global trend right now in retail and consumer shopping but often have a blank canvas, textured, neutral setting with feature spotlighting, and metallic or glass pendants being used to layer the space and guide shoppers throughout the floorspace. Alas these aren’t the most interesting to use as examples here- sorry about that.

While concrete is still being used for floor, wall and tables as a finish, white walls aren’t going anywhere either- but here we have a broad stoke of examples to show the latest fashion store designs.

Burberry’s store on Bond Street has been re-launched, using spherically-shaped furniture and curves on the suspended ceiling that creates beautiful layers to the all-white setting. They have used spotlights hidden in the ceiling grid too and the environment allows the product to invite customers to touch, to try on and to discuss with a store colleague.

Next up Chanel’s new store in Edinburgh, within a stunning Georgian townhouse. Absolutely stunning floor and original ceiling (we presume it’s restored) and there’s a lovely placement of mannequins and cosy lounge furniture throughout. A very different shopping experience to Burberry’s more sleek approach, but Chanel have curated the shopping experience beautifully here and from the outside, you’re quietly told it is indeed Chanel’s store.

Our beloved Jigsaw, they’re adding more warmth and colour with their new store concept as seen in this article. Black and gold pendants and natural wood tables, a green tone used for the dressing area- nice to see some colour!

Have you come across RIXO? They’ve created a stunning store central to the King’s Road in Chelsea London, there are two palm trees, a large bar and from the floor, to the lighting, the seating, the props- it all feels so handcrafted, so organic, so relatable. You want to move in and dress up instantly- well I do anyway! Lots of lovely detail in this article here.

Monsoon have opened up a vintage store in London’s Portobello Road. It is a pop-up but they have everything from 70’s Monsoon to Oscar de la Renta so definitely worth checking out if in the area! More here:

Doug has a love for shoes; this example is for him; Bobbies’ new store in Marylebone. The nooks to sit and try on shoes are a beautiful example of bespoke joinery, something designers throughly love drawing and seeing in the flesh once made to spec. See here.

And finally, back to a white store but elegantly delivered- Uniclo’s new flagship in Covent Garden. It feels similar to COS in Coal Drops, it’s got that inside/outside feeling with their main staircase being in a glass-covered atrium and the space features Georgian sash windows and columns; it has a lot of warmth in it’s use of the architecture and feels quite grown up for them. Love it.   Full article here.
