Design Trends for 2023

2023 design trends

As the year comes to a close, we look forward to the new design trends that will shape our future interiors. Trade shows have given us sneak peek into finishes and furnishings, but here is a more in depth look at what to expect according to Interior Design Magazine.

1. Designs That Prioritize the Outdoors
Design is not just for the interior, but also the exterior. Carve out lounge spaces where people can take in the fresh air, relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. Bring the exterior indoors with fresh foliage, natural elements such as wood and water, and/or art/photos that feature these items.

2. Sustainability: a Design Trend That Reigns Supreme
Sustainability in design will also be an important topic for discussion. Select finishes that are eco-friendly, non-polluting, and can be recycled at the end of their useful lives. Incorporate solar panels and water reservoirs if applicable.

3. Spaces that Renew and Restore
Now more than ever, people are taking the time to relax and unwind. Provide spaces that allow the mind to clear and recharge. Calming colors and patterns, comfortable furniture, and soft lighting and music will all help create this atmosphere.

4. Room Accents with Personality
Spaces that are quirky and different from the typical, are gaining popularity. Put personality on display with fun graphics and displays.

5. Residential Design with Hospitality Amenities and Art
Residential design is taking a page out of the commercial industry by incorporating art and large sculptures into common spaces. Think big and out-of-the-box.

6. Hospitality Design… or is It?
Typical spaces are not so…typical anymore. Work spaces are relocating to flexible buildings that allow for a homier atmosphere while also providing meeting spaces. Cafeterias are becoming kitchens, break rooms are becoming lounges. Work and life are intermixing.
