Luxury brand Loewe has launched its first retail location in Australia to stock menswear, choosing a historic Melbourne building in the city centre for its latest boutique.

Loewe Melbourne, located at 161 Collins Street in the city’s T&G Building, is inspired by creative director Jonathan Anderson’s Casa Loewe. According to the brand, Loewe Melbourne is a new entry point into “the Loewe universe, where the house’s innate connection to art, craft, and design is brought to life”.

The interior features handcrafted ceramics, brass, and twisted iron contrasting with large glass windows and concrete floors. Pink exterior panels are offset by yellow, white, and blue hues.

The store also contains artworks including the painting ‘Pauline’s presence’, a sculpture by New Zealand-based artist Kate Newby, ‘Hold onto me as we go’, ‘Self-Portrait With David Ball’  by late Welsh photographer Angus McBean, and a small-scale piece titled ‘Syphilitic Rat’ by American artist Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt.

In addition, there is also a coffee table by celebrated Belgian interior designer Axel Vervoordt that sits alongside Loewe-crafted martini tables, aiming to create an atmosphere of warm elegance.

Customers can access a full range of the brand’s women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, bags, small leather goods, soft accessories, eyewear and jewellery.

Loewe also opened its first recraft store, Loewe ReCraft, in Japan earlier this month, committing to the long-term viability of the brand’s handcrafted bags.
