Australian 3D body scanning and data startup Bodd has secured $5 million in funding for its global expansion into North America.

The technology developed by Bodd’s engineering team together with Swinburne University of Technology and RMIT, captures data on the human body in a non-obtrusive, “safe and secure way”.

This funding round was led by new shareholders and former G-Star Australia/New Zealand licensees Nick and Candice Hirons, as well as Tim Allison – the founding chairman of Virtual Gaming Worlds with the remainder conducted exclusively with family offices and high-net-worth individuals.

Bodd’s co-founder and CEO, Rob Fisher, welcomed new shareholders and said their support and expertise will be “invaluable” to the company’s future.

“Body data is showing incredible potential to be a force for good in the world and Bodd is well positioned to become the global standard.

“We are leading a whole new advanced manufacturing product category with much more compelling investment opportunities, which we believe is very much in Australia’s long-term interests,” said Fisher.

Bodd boasts military, uniform and retail customers across Australia and Asia-Pacific and is currently trialling with health and pharmacy chains in Australia and major clothing retailers and wellness brands in North America.

The 3D scanners are manufactured in Australia in partnership with Bosch which provides the specialised equipment the company requires.

The investment is expected to further strengthen its existing footprint in the uniform industry, with increased capital expenditure and more hires.
