Ksubi, the Australian denim streetwear brand, plans to open three standalone stores on two continents before the end of this year.

Next month, boutiques will open in Miami and Chicago, while in October, Ksubi will open its first standalone boutique in the UK, on Carnaby St in the trendy London CBD precinct, Soho. The company currently has stores in New York and Los Angeles and also sells through partnerships with retailers including End, Matchesfashion, Browns Fashion and upscale department stores Selfridges and Harvey Nichols.

Next year, the brand will mark its return home to its Australian roots, with stores planned for Sydney and Melbourne.

“We’ve found our LA and New York stores have become hubs for our crew to hang out and we hope London will be the same,” said Craig King, CEO of Ksubi

“Soho has incredible energy and has long been a destination for streetwear and the other great brands we share the space with. Our team are looking forward to bringing our unique design point of view and attitude to Carnaby Street.”

Ksubi was founded in 1999 on Sydney’s northern beaches by Gareth Moody, Dan Single, Paul Wilson and George Gorrow who were dissatisfied with the cuts and styles of mainstream denim brands and decided to create their own. Originally called Tsubi, the brand quickly spread to London, debuting in a disused tube station in 2002, before being renamed Ksubi in 2006 following a trademark dispute.

The business was acquired by clothing manufacturer Bleach in 2010, but when that company was placed in liquidation three years later, Breakwater Management acquired Ksubi, onselling the licence to The General Pants Group a year later.

According to WWD, Ksubi recently entered into a wholesale partnership agreement with Tomorrow Ltd, a global brand development platform, to increase the brand’s distribution throughout Europe and the UK.

A local real estate investor named Shaftesbury claims that the London shop will be situated at 10 Carnaby Street and has a 2132 sqft retail space.

Ksubi is collaborating with retail design firm Brinkworth on the London store design, which will incorporate space for planned events, installations, and exhibitions aimed at showcasing talent and honouring regional artists.
