Questioning modularity and intimacy within our living and working spaces

A one-of-a-kind modular and striking folding screen that seamlessly unfolds with a magnetic rotation system offering different degrees of privacy – Aloïs Gromard crafts Peacock.

Brilliantly designed for a unique experience as well as focusing on user needs, Aloïs Gromard crafts ‘Peacock’ – a one-of-a-kind modular and striking folding screen that seamlessly unfolds with a magnetic rotation system offering different degrees of privacy.

With an artistic dimension to his innovative products through the material, shape and color chosen – “I’m interested in the question of modularity as well as evolving objects and spaces.

Sensitive to environmental issues, I try integrating an eco-friendly approach in the design of my projects through bio-sourced and recyclable materialssays Gromard.

Utilized in a wide variety of living as well as working areas – this eclectic product is beautifully fabricated in a way for one to choose from a mélange of eye-catching vibrant or muted hues for the circles.

Its minimalistic compact shape when closed, effortlessly allows the user to move or store it easily and when unfolded – the screen’s almost 2 meters wide and 1.8 meters high allowing for privacy.

To bring rigidity to the screen he skillfully utilized plywood for the internal structure of the circles and steel for the feet – “I decided to use thin metal legs to give an illusion of the upper mass floating” he adds.

The foam and colorful wool felt circles further gives one’s space a soft as well as graphic appearance and its acoustic and sound absorption characteristics reinforce the idea of intimacy.
“Additionally a technical magnetic system lets the circles rotate smoothly and maintain their balance when the screen is open” says Gromard.
