Angry Birds retail cafe launches in the US

Angry Birds’ creator Rovio Entertainment has partnered with SCG America to launch a world-first retail cafe, iSwii by Angry Birds, in the US.

The cafe, is due to open on Saturday (July 8) in Flushing’s Tangram, a 1.2 million sqft mixed-use new development in Queens, according to a deal facilitated by Angry Birds’ global licencing agency IMG.

The 3300sqft iSwii by Angry Birds is decorated in a modern style, with a series of Instagrammable NYC-themed statue installations outside the entry, a bright mural ceiling with Angry Birds images, a terrazzo counter and flooring that resembles dessert sprinkles.

“Launching iSwii by Angry Birds is a perfect way to bring locals and Angry Birds fans back to fun in-person experiences,” said the executive director of Asset Management of SCG America, Robert Leck.

“This unique concept will feature endless culinary treats, bright visuals, the newest Angry Birds Games and interactive technology, and the coolest-ever themed shopping experience. Angry Birds as a global brand was a perfect fit for this location with its appeal to a wide age range, gender-neutral audience and touch points in all entertainment forms.”

The iSwii by Angry Birds experience is now available for private parties and gatherings in private “nests” – rooms with Angry Birds VR games and snacks, including customisable Angry Birds-themed gift bags for partygoers.

Launched in 2009 as a popular mobile game, the brand has now grown into a worldwide recognised media property, encompassing a wide range of entertainment and consumer products, two feature films, a long-form Netflix series, and location-based entertainment.

In 2012, Rovio Entertainment opened an Angry Birds brand store in Shanghai, the first one outside its home base in Finland.
