Hasbro’s long-time CEO Brian Goldner has died, reports CNBC. Goldner passed away just two days after taking immediate medical leave as a result of treatment for recurring cancer. He was 58.

Goldner served as CEO since 2008, joining Hasbro in 2000 and assuming the role of chairman of the board in 2015. Rich Stoddart was appointed interim CEO when Goldner announced he would take medical leave.

“Since joining the company more than two decades ago, Brian has been the heart and soul of Hasbro,” Stoddart said in a statement. “As a charismatic and passionate leader in both the play and entertainment industries, Brian’s work brought joy and laughter to children and families around the world.”

Goldner is credited with evolving the Hasbro business beyond toys and games into tv, movies and digital gaming.
