Primark enters Warsaw for a start

And there’s always the first time. Not counting the shop in Slovenia this is the first step of an Irish clothing brand into the Central European market. And Primark made plans for further expansion. The chain plans development to Krakow, Wroclaw in Poland and then in Prague, Check Republic.

But let’s be honest, the Irish brand enters a very strong retail market of affordable clothing and homeware in Central Europe. That’s right, the competition in this sector is set up high. Primark will be competing with well established international brands like Pepco, C&A, H&M, Reserved, Bershka. And many others.

Debuting Primark’s store is located in Galeria Mlociny, a new shopping centre opened in 2019. Let’s look closely at this Warsaw’s hot commercial spot.

The commercial complex is designed by award-winning Kurylowicz & Associates architecture studio. Over 261 000 sq.m space is a large shopping, entertainment and coworking office facility.

We could describe it as a real urban hub for shoppers, families, entrepreneurs and locals. Buzzing with seasonal events and hosting a variety of food projects. Undoubtedly, this well-connected, modern space attracts a high-traffic flow.

Industrial heritage of Huta Warszawa

Worth mentioning that Galeria Mlociny is a new development for the north part of Warsaw. A former industrial site of Huta Warszawa. So, this new commercial development, along with other projects, gentrified this post-industrial landscape.

For a start, it seems Primark has selected strategically their first location in a 1.8 mln capital city. After launching, Primark offers their customers men’s, women’s, children’s and homeware’s collections on a 3600 sq.m space.

Surely, it is a huge competition for the existing brands on the Polish market but also it proofs great potential for this affordable fashion retailer already booming in 12 countries.
