The milestone label went up in its store at Drumnadrochit in the Highlands and is part of an effort to increase efficiency and reduce the paper wastage from traditional shelf labels.

Allan Robertson, programme manager for innovation and change at Scotmid, said: “As a retailer based in the heart of communities we serve, we continually look for innovative solutions that will deliver genuine benefits for our customers as well as our colleagues.

“We’re excited to bring modern electronic labels to present our price and product information more clearly for customers across Scotland.

“We have rolled out to more than 30 stores and will continue that roll-out across our food-store estate.”

David Sandbach, branch supervisor at Drumnadrochit, said: “I’m so pleased to see this huge milestone reached in our store. It really does look fantastic.

“The feedback from our team and customers has been fantastic.”

The installation programme was delivered in partnership with Southern Co-op, which trialled the technology in 12 of its own stores.
