Gen Z Australians still prefer boutiques to online for fashion

Physical stores are still preferred to online channels among Gen Z Aussies when it comes to shopping for fashion.

Despite the ongoing growth of e-commerce, more than 70 per cent of Gen Z said they will buy clothes at physical boutique stores or thrift stores instead of buying across e-commerce sites and marketplaces, according to a survey of Yubo, a Gen Z social media platform.

Only 7.5 per cent of respondents said they want to buy clothes on online marketplaces such as Depop or Facebook.

Meanwhile, the survey also touches on the attitude of Gen Zers towards sustainability. Almost three in four of respondents said they would pay more for sustainable and/or ethically made clothing, knowing that it’s helping a brand to make a difference.

More than half of respondents learn if a fashion brand is sustainable or ethical before making a choice to purchase by checking brands’ websites and social media channels, or word of mouth.

In addition, influencers or content creators inspire half of Gen Z Aussies on their fashion decisions, with just over half purchasing new clothes or accessories on a weekly basis.
